Throughout my whole life I’ve been involved in all different types of sports; basketball, tennis, table tennis, cricket, badminton and most importantly football. Unfortunately, my journey wasn’t the easiest as I had setback after setback at such a young age. When I was 13/14 years old, I was experiencing severe pain in my lower back. This eventually led to physio and then further referrals for x-rays and further investigation.
This then resulted in me needing a major operation as one of my lumbar vertebrae had slipped 75%, also known as grade 3 spondylolisthesis. Now I am left with 8 metal screws and two titanium rods in my spine. This whole operation knocked me out of sport for two years. The main message I try to put across is no matter how many setbacks you encounter, DON'T GIVE UP!
I was never one for the gym or lifting weights at all, I only ever focused on my sports and succeeding in them, I never really saw a reason for me to be in the gym at the time. However, now since becoming a Personal Trainer I have learned so many ways of training in the gym and it has massively increased both my interest and confidence.
Last year I would never even dream of touching any free weights, whereas now they are the focus of my workouts. This was all down to me not understanding the benefit of training in the gym, even for the sports I was doing!
